This session was a true labor of love for the stylist, Katie with Sage & Stem Events, and myself. As the date for the session drew closer almost everything we had planned on fell through – our biggest issue being the models and gown. We considered cancelling altogether but instead decided to take what we had, adjust the concept a bit and see if we could make it work. Katie found a real couple and a gown the night before the shoot and that was the beginning of an entirely different kind of inspiration unfolding. It wasn’t until we were able to see everything that we threw together last minute come to life in the olive grove that we knew following through despite the mishaps was worth it.

Not only was our real couple bringing all the life and love to the images, the gown matched her style perfectly and the light kept getting better and better as it faded behind the grove. Amidst the change, the one constant was our initial inspiration for this shoot: the olive grove. We wanted to play off of the romance of it’s vast scenery and textured branches while infusing a pop of boho vibes and Arizona sunset hues.

We understand that things don’t always go as planned when planning and executing your session and this session was a good reminder of that for us. What’s most important is ensuring the big pieces are in place, that you have a backup plan and that you trust your vendor team to be innovative when needed. For couples, our biggest piece of advice is to hire vendors who you trust and who you know can still create something incredible through any setbacks and just have fun, enjoy the moment and know that your positivity and trust will make the photos and experience exactly what you want.
