It’s officially fall and that means it’s time to usher in the next part of wedding season. Cue the long sleeve wedding dresses, deeper color palettes and changing landscapes. A lot of couples feel that having a fall wedding means that they’ll have to move the party to an indoor venue. However, Ali and Derek’s mountain wedding proves just how warm and cozy an outdoor fall wedding can be. In this post, we’ll showcase my favorite elements from this sweet outdoor fall wedding. From the simple outdoor fall wedding ceremony, to the bride and groom attire details, and adorable rustic wedding decorations. Plus, a few words of advice on planning your big day from our couple Ali and Derek. As always, the full gallery is featured at the end of this blog!
For their modern rustic wedding, Ali and Derek chose a private Airbnb in Utah’s Uinta National Forest. The venue featured ideal locations for both their ceremony and reception. The intimate outdoor fall wedding ceremony took place on the deck overlooking the changing leaves and sweeping mountain views. A few simple lanterns, flowers, and candles were all it took to bring the space to life. Surrounded by their loved ones and framed by the mountains, they exchanged personal vows in an emotional ceremony. It couldn’t have been more picturesque and romantic. One of the sweetest moments? The bride and groom took a Polaroid photo of one another at the altar to capture the moment forever.
This wedding featured such unique and creative wedding decorations inspired by nature. Not to mention, they’d be so simple to recreate yourself. Behind the sweetheart table, delicate strands of lights hung with neutral tone feathers and pinecones from a birch branch. Wildflower bouquets, rose gold vases, gauzy runners, and birch log candle holders adorned the tables. All the elements came together to create a woodsy, elegant, and cozy atmosphere for their outdoor fall wedding. Their food and drink selections also helped compliment their theme. During cocktail hour, guests enjoyed a charcuterie spread with local meats, cheeses and rustic breads. For dinner, guests selected from delicious seasonal options by award winning food truck Shylo’s Cafe. Every detail from start to finish embodied their relaxed and cozy outdoor wedding vibe.
When asked about their advice for newly engaged couples planning their wedding day, here’s what both our bride and groom had to say….
Ali: ”Your wedding mirrors your attitude toward it. If you want your guests to be happy and enjoy themselves, you have to make sure that you are happy and enjoy yourself! If you want them to dance, you have to dance. Laugh through any little mishap and embrace the imperfection to avoid awkwardness or embarrassment. The guests will follow your lead.”
Derek: “Weddings can often seem like the end of something—you go to school, you get a job, you get married, etc. It’s a final achievement unlocked in terms of a relationship’s success. But what after that—buy a house and have kids? For me, I have always needed a finish line. I could never appreciate a hike unless it terminated in a picturesque waterfall or beautiful vista. Something I learned while engaged to Ali was the ability of enjoying the voyage. I didn’t want to get married because it was the metaphorical waterfall. I wanted to marry Ali because of who she is, to be there to see what she becomes, watch her achieve her immense potential, and be able to support her along the way. Don’t look at your wedding as an accomplishment or the end of being an individual but as a spectacular stop on the journey through a beautiful landscape.”
